Such an engine is also substantially maintenance-free due to fewer moving parts and a much smaller number of friction surfaces, its lifetime is several times longer than in the conventional commutator motor. Moreover, it is also significantly quieter. Air tank serves as a reservoir of compressed air and the motor is thus switched on only in the event that air pressure drops below the desired level.
