Energy crops are crops grown for the purpose of gaining energy in the form of a hydrocarbon. This biomass is mainly used for combustion, but energy crops are often grown for gasification, or anaerobic digestion or liquid fuel production. These crops are usually divided into herbaceous and woody plants. Perhaps the best known representative of the energy crop in the Czech Republic is oilseed rape.
